About EmuRank

What is EmuRank?

EmuRank is a community-built database for video game emulation compatibility. Users submit reports on how well games run on different emulators, operating systems, and hardware configurations. The community then votes on these reports, and EmuRank automatically determines the best-known compatibility level for each game based on the most relevant and recent data.

Game data is sourced from IGDB, covering 14 platforms and 28 emulators. All reports are submitted by real users and scored automatically based on version recency, community votes, source reliability, and freshness.

Compatibility Levels

Each report is assigned one of six compatibility levels. The best level across all high-scoring reports is shown on the game page as its overall compatibility.

Perfect

Runs flawlessly with no visual glitches, audio issues, or performance problems. Indistinguishable from native hardware.

Playable

Completable from start to finish with only minor issues that do not meaningfully affect the experience.

Ingame

Runs past the title screen but has significant issues, frequent crashes, or insufficient performance to be completed.

Intro

Boots and may show the intro sequence or main menu, but cannot progress any further.

Loadable

Appears to start loading and the emulator shows activity, but no playable content is rendered.

Nothing

Fails to initialize at all. The emulator crashes or produces no output.

The "playable percentage" shown in emulator statistics counts only Perfect and Playable.

How Reports Are Scored

Every report receives a relevance score from 0 to 100, recalculated automatically whenever a new report is submitted or a vote is cast. Only reports above the relevance threshold are considered when determining a game's best compatibility.

Version Recency

Reports for newer emulator versions score higher, since they reflect the current state of emulation for that title.

Community Votes

UP and DOWN votes directly affect a report's score. Reports with no votes start at a neutral midpoint.

Source Reliability

Reports imported from official compatibility databases carry higher reliability weight than community-submitted reports.

Report Freshness

Emulation improves constantly. Reports gradually lose relevance after 2 years to keep the data current.
