Best Console Emulators by Platform

Compare emulator options by platform on EmuRank. The platform list below is ordered alphabetically so you can jump straight to the system you care about, see which emulator looks safest to open first, and compare the same-platform alternatives before you click deeper.

Every comparison on this page is platform-specific. Multi-platform projects such as Dolphin appear separately for each system they support, and the numbers never mix GameCube, Wii, or any other platform into one blended score. If you are new to these labels, the Compatibility Levels guide explains what Perfect, Playable, and the lower tiers mean in practice.

Emulators FAQ

What does the emulators page show on EmuRank?

The emulators page groups emulator projects by platform and shows which emulator page is the best first page to open for each system right now. It also shows the other emulator pages EmuRank tracks for that platform, their project status, and how much tested compatibility evidence exists for each one.

How does EmuRank choose the best emulator for a platform?

EmuRank chooses the best first emulator page using platform-specific evidence, not a blended global project score. The main goal is to favor the safest first page to open, so coverage breadth and confidence matter more than a tiny high-quality tested slice with only a handful of games.

Why can the same emulator appear under more than one platform?

Some emulator projects support more than one platform. When that happens, EmuRank shows the project separately in each platform section because the tested coverage, confidence, and compatibility results can differ a lot by system.

What does playable when tested mean?

Playable when tested means the share of tested games for that emulator-platform row currently rated Perfect or Playable on EmuRank. It is a quality signal for the games EmuRank has already seen, not a claim about the entire platform catalog.

What is Tested coverage on EmuRank?

Tested coverage is the share of a platform's full released catalog that has at least one emulator-specific report on EmuRank. It measures how broadly an emulator has been tested against the whole platform, not just the games that happen to have been reported. An emulator can show a high playable rate on a narrow tested slice while covering very little of the full catalog.

What does Confidence mean on this page?

Confidence measures the breadth of tested evidence for an emulator on a given platform. It is driven mainly by tested coverage: how much of the platform's full catalog has emulator-specific reports on EmuRank. Higher confidence means EmuRank has seen a larger, more representative slice of the platform, making the playable rate more meaningful.

Why do some platforms have only one emulator recommendation or no recommendation yet?

Some platforms are effectively one-project ecosystems on EmuRank right now, while others are still too early to support a real recommendation. A platform only gets a real best-emulator callout when there is tested emulator-specific evidence to support it.

Should I open the platform page, emulator page, or game page first?

Open the platform page first when you want the ecosystem view, open the emulator page first when you already know the project you want to inspect, and open the game page first when you need the final answer for one exact title. The emulators index page is the bridge between those three navigation modes.
